After serving twelve years in the United States Army, Chad decided to pursue multiple degrees in history. While many periods interest him, his passion lies mostly with the early medieval history of northern Europe. The Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings, their military tactics and methods, fortifications, gender and sexuality, concepts of masculinity, and sociology. For his upcoming thesis, he is heavily leaning toward focusing on misuse of the Middle Ages in the modern era, encompassing everything from the Romantic period (the development of archeology and nationalism), to the Nazis, Charlottesville, Incels, and the current era of nationalism and popular culture. But we’ll see what actually happens.
